Harmonix 1to1 in Schools

Music mentoring for wellbeing, confidence and positive behaviour

One-to-one and group sessions for young people aged 11–17 in Maidstone and the surrounding areas.

Harmonix uses songwriting, music production and performance to help young people express themselves, build confidence and develop positive relationships.

Led by experienced youth mentors who are working music professionals, our sessions provide a supportive space to explore emotions, recognise strengths and develop skills that support everyday life and learning.

When a young person struggles with confidence, frustration, relationships or engagement in school, music can offer a way to connect.

We build trust through shared creativity, taking time to listen and understand each young person’s interests and needs. Alongside making music, our mentoring supports:

Recognising feelings and exploring constructive ways to express them.

Reflecting on choices, managing frustration and considering others.

Recognising strengths and taking pride in achievements.

Practising listening, cooperation and sharing ideas.

Developing focus, persistence and motivation through meaningful creative goals.

No musical experience is needed. Sessions are shaped around the young person’s needs, interests and pace.

Individual support and space to be heard.

One-to-one sessions give young people focused time with a supportive mentor. Creating beats, writing lyrics or recording a track can open conversations about feelings, experiences and aspirations.

This personalised approach is particularly helpful for young people who need additional attention, find group settings difficult or benefit from time to build trust and confidence.

Connection, cooperation and shared achievement.

Group sessions help young people develop social skills through making music together. Participants practise listening, taking turns, working through differences and encouraging one another.

There are different ways to get involved, from songwriting and production to instruments and performance, allowing each young person to contribute without pressure to take centre stage.

A creative approach to behavioural support, wellbeing and engagement.

Harmonix complements pastoral and learning support by engaging students through music that matters to them. We work with schools to identify priorities and tailor sessions to individual students or groups.

Our provision can support young people experiencing emotional or behavioural difficulties, low confidence, additional needs or disengagement from education, including students with an EHCP or eligible for Pupil Premium.

We have delivered Harmonix sessions at New Line Learning Academy, The Gateway and MMAP, alongside our wider community provision.

Help your child find their voice and recognise their potential.

If your child struggles to express their feelings, connect with others or believe in themselves, Harmonix offers encouragement through something they can enjoy.

Our mentors listen without judgement and support young people to work towards achievable goals. Each step, from sharing an idea to completing a track, creates an opportunity to experience progress and feel proud.

Across the wider Harmonix programme, young people have progressed from taking part in sessions to performing, volunteering and pursuing further education. Some have formed bands and released their own music.

Progress looks different for everyone. For one young person, it may mean performing on stage. For another, it may mean joining a group, trusting an adult or feeling confident enough to share an idea.

Whether you are a parent seeking individual support or a school looking to commission sessions, we can help you explore the right approach.
